Changed in 8d6c943: these assertions are now shared by both interpreters and check the 3.15.0 version fields and cache tag without an implementation-name guard or an alpha-only assertion. The same snippet passes on RustPython and official CPython 3.15.0.

Changed in 8d6c943. RustPython now implements the exact str/bytes/tuple repetition specializations used by CPython 3.15, including both operand orders and in-place multiplication. The tests are universal: fresh and warmed bytecode assert exact diagnostics, with cross-type and subclass fallback coverage. No implementation-name guard or accepted-message tuple remains. All 38 selected native/reference snippet runs and 1,726 canonical tests pass locally; hosted CI is still pending.

Reject stale CPython caches before library upgrades
When the Upgrade Python Library workflow is dispatched while a cpython-lib-v3.14.* cache exists, this version bump makes the primary key miss, the frontmatter's restore-keys: cpython-lib- restores that old cpython/ tree, and Step 1 later skips cloning whenever cpython/Lib exists. scripts/update_lib quick then copies 3.14 library files even though the workflow and PR template target v3.15.0; validate or check out $PYTHON_VERSION after restoring, or remove the cross-version fallback.

Fixed in 8d6c943. The workflow source and regenerated lock file no longer restore cross-version CPython caches. Both the workflow setup and .claude/scripts/setup-env.sh reject an existing checkout unless HEAD matches v3.15.0 and the working tree is clean; they leave stale or dirty files untouched. The cache validation fixtures and workflow security scan pass. Hosted CI is still pending.

Refresh an existing CPython checkout to v3.15
When this startup script is rerun in a workspace that already contains the v3.14.3 clone created by the previous version, the directory-only guard takes the else path and this new v3.15.0 clone command is never executed. Since scripts/update_lib quick reads directly from the existing cpython/ tree and does not validate the requested target, subsequent library work continues against 3.14; verify/fetch the tag or replace an out-of-date checkout instead of checking only for directory existence.

Preserve exact repeat-error assertions
When this snippet runs on CPython 3.15's warmed reverse-multiplication path, the new tuple branch permits either overflow diagnostic, so a change in which converter that path uses no longer fails the differential test. This also changes assertion logic despite the repository's explicit restriction against modifying test assertions or test logic; keep the path deterministic with one exact expected diagnostic rather than broadening the assertion.

Enforce the 3.15 AST constructor contract
When a caller constructs a 3.15 AST node without a required field (for example, ast.UnaryOp(op=ast.Not())), RustPython still takes crates/vm/src/stdlib/_ast/python.rs:459-474, emits the pre-3.15 deprecation warning, and successfully creates the incomplete node instead of raising TypeError. Supplying operand=None here (and analogous placeholders below) removes that input from the universal snippet rather than updating the runtime, so the newly advertised target silently retains the retired constructor contract; enforce the error in the Rust constructor rather than hiding it with changed fixture data.

Avoid unavailable 3.15 in the generated agent runtime
When Upgrade Python Library is dispatched while final 3.15 is absent from setup-python's catalog, the generated agent job stops here before any upgrade code runs. The new .github/actions/setup-python/action.yml explicitly introduces uv because that catalog is not ready (lines 17-24), yet this generated job is the sole remaining direct actions/setup-python caller and asks it for 3.15; keep the gh-aw host runtime on an available version (the update script only needs 3.13+) or provision it through uv as well.

Keep cache tags tied to the implemented bytecode
When imports are run in a checkout shared with CPython 3.15, this expected tag makes both interpreters target the same *.cpython-315.pyc, even though crates/vm/src/version.rs:71-78 still emits CPython 3.14 magic 3627 and .github/workflows/ci.yaml:789-792 deliberately keeps opcode metadata on 3.14. Each interpreter therefore rejects and may overwrite the other's same-named cache; use a RustPython-specific or 3.14-compatible tag until the bytecode/magic migration instead of updating the assertion to bless the mismatch.

Restrict mappingproxy ordering, use final codec registry normalization, and prefer index conversion before float conversion for sleep. Summary
Transition the active target and comparison baseline to official CPython v3.15.0 (
d220409a13b77de7a6c30abe16ea90db01528edc), with the compatibility changes required by the existing snippets and CI. This does not bring in the full library or bytecode migration from #8954.sysconfig.is_python_build(check_home).expectedFailuremarkers retain the frozendict pickle tests while the separate feature in Implement PEP 814 frozendict #8951 is absent; remove those markers when the feature lands. The runtime remains alpha. The bytecode format and magic remain at the implemented Python 3.14 level; opcode generation therefore reads v3.14.7 source metadata, while execution/comparison uses 3.15.0 final. The
rustpython-315cache tag keeps that bytecode separate from CPython's caches. Most bundled libraries retain their existing source versions. This is not a claim of complete Python 3.15 feature or bytecode compatibility.Final reference provisioning and merge hold
The official actions/python-versions catalog now supplies stable 3.15.0 final, including the Linux, macOS and Windows runners used here (release assets). The workflows again use the repository's pinned
actions/setup-pythonv7.0.0 directly. The temporary standalone provisioning action and its sparse-checkout dependency are removed.Leave this PR unmerged for maintainer review. Official binary availability is resolved; CI must be rechecked for the restoration commit. The generated manual library-upgrade workflow already uses setup-python and remains unchanged; its separate generator/lockfile audit is not part of this patch.

The same failure also occurs on scheduled main commit5c40bb25af94b3854b25a3fbba0b8dd415a5a319(baseline job). This pre-existing regression-runner issue is not changed or skipped here. Coverage collection was also cancelled at the six-hour job limit after stalling intest.test_concurrent_futures.test_interpreter_pool(coverage job); the same stall occurs on scheduled main (baseline coverage job). All jobs are now terminal. The primary CI matrix passes; both residual periodic failures reproduce on main. The maintainer merge hold remains in effect.AI assistance
OpenAI Codex assisted with source comparison, implementation, regression analysis and automated validation under the requesting maintainer's direction. The runtime does not expose an exact model identifier; commits disclose that limitation.
