Remove newly added test logic from the existing snippet
This starts a 1,179-line addition of new regression assertions and test classes in an existing test file, while the repository's critical test policy limits acceptable test-file edits to adding or removing expected-failure markers and their upper TODO comments. This block should not be landed without an explicit policy exception.

Restore the original doctest assertion
Widening this bound changes an existing test assertion, which the repository's test policy explicitly forbids; the implementation or test marker strategy must be adjusted without rewriting the assertion.

Preserve frozendict's own class documentation
After extend_class installs the dedicated PyFrozenDict::DOC declared above, these lines immediately replace it with dict.__doc__. Consequently frozendict.__doc__ advertises the mutable dict constructor and the exact documentation assertion added in extra_tests/snippets/builtin_dict.py fails; leave the generated frozendict documentation in place instead.

Publish a single winning cached hash
In threading builds, two simultaneous first calls to hash() can both observe the sentinel; if a contained value's Python __hash__ yields different results across those calls, each caller returns its own result and the last relaxed store replaces the earlier cache, so the same frozendict can have two hashes and fail when used in a dict or set. Publish with compare-exchange and return the already-published value on loss, as the PyFrozenSet cache does.

CPython v3.15.0 uses the same relaxed store in frozendict_hash: https://github.com/python/cpython/blob/v3.15.0/Objects/dictobject.c#L8392-L8427 . Reference probes reproduce cache replacement for reentrant or concurrent calls when a contained value returns changing hashes. With stable value hashes, both calculations agree. Keeping CPython behavior in this PR rather than adding a defensive divergence for values that violate the hash contract; this is not an atomic memory-safety issue.

Preserve inline marker comments when comparing decorators
When source and destination decorators have identical ASTs but the destination has an inline RustPython marker such as @unittest.expectedFailure # TODO: RUSTPYTHON; reason, this AST-only comparison accepts them as equal and the later whole-definition replacement silently deletes the destination comment while retaining the decorator. Compare the exact decorator source or preserve destination marker comments so the command cannot remove the required rationale independently of the marker.

Preserve causes when wrapping frozendict hash errors
When a key's __hash__ raises an exact TypeError, this branch creates a replacement error but drops exc; the corresponding PyDict::hash_or_unhashable path attaches that exception as __cause__. Consequently construction, lookup, and membership on a frozendict lose the original traceback even though the same operations on a dict preserve it, so build the new error and call set_cause(Some(exc)) before returning it.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Checked this against the pinned CPython 3.15.0 final source: dict_unhashable_type fetches the exact TypeError, formats a replacement, and decrefs the original without setting a cause (https://github.com/python/cpython/blob/d220409a13b77de7a6c30abe16ea90db01528edc/Objects/dictobject.c#L2438-L2457).
The update uses one helper for dict and frozendict with that behavior, and propagates argument str/repr failures. The bounded regression checks exception identity, cause/context, and formatting for both types; it passes on the pinned CPython oracle and the new RustPython build.

These are new tests in a new #[cfg(test)] module in dict.rs; no existing test assertions, logic, or data were changed. They check Rust layout/alignment, native pointer identity, ownership/refcounts, traversal, and checked PyRef<PyAnyDict> conversion. Those structural invariants need Rust coverage. Python-visible behavior is tested in the existing extra_tests/snippets/builtin_dict.py. The cited restriction on modifying existing tests does not require removing this new native safety coverage.
