Excel data visualization learning path

Follow the Stringfest Analytics learning path.

  1. Open nyc-populations-by-borough.xlsx and use its data worksheet.
  2. Follow the article to build the charts. The main comparison filters Attribute to 2010 and sums Value by Borough.
  3. Optionally use copilot-prompt.txt to create and check the same chart with Copilot.

The workbook is an unchanged copy of the original public exercise file.

Know the data

This is an older teaching dataset. NYC Department of City Planning, Table 7 uses census figures for 1950-2000, adjusted census figures for 2010, and projections for 2020-2040. The workbook's 2020 figures are not final 2020 Census counts.

For the 2010 exercise, there should be five boroughs totaling 8,242,624 people. Brooklyn is largest and Staten Island smallest. Exclude the Grand Total from the chart.
