Description

Problem

User sees irrelevant profiles for selected scan scheduleFor example, see Manual testing steps.

Analysis of request

TL;DR Search filter query in request has partial instead of exact match.

  1. Find in Files ScanConfigurationSelect

    • CheckDetailsPage.tsx has getComplianceProfileCheckStats request
    • ClusterDetailsPage.tsx has listComplianceScanConfigClusterProfiles request
    • CoveragesPage.tsx has getComplianceProfilesStats request
    • compliance.coverage.utils.tsx file creates search query:
    export function createScanConfigFilter(selectedScanConfigName: string | undefined) {
        return selectedScanConfigName ? { [SCAN_CONFIG_NAME_QUERY]: selectedScanConfigName } : {};
    }
  2. Find in Files createScanConfigFilter

    • Same 3 .tsx files as previous item.
    • ComplianceProfilesProvider.tsx has listComplianceScanConfigProfiles request
  3. Find convertToExactMatch function in src/utils/searchUtils.ts file:

    export function convertToExactMatch(item): unknown {
        if (typeof item !== 'string') {
            return item;
        }
        return `r/^${item}$`;
    }

    Ouch unknown return type causes TypeScript errors below

Analysis of page address

Although I feel more confident to understand how the selected scan schedule persists between pages, it is not the root of the problem.

  1. Find in Files scanSchedule

    • ScanConfigurationsProvider.tsx
    • useScanConfigRouter.ts
  2. Find in Files useScanConfigRouter

    const { generatePathWithScanConfig } = useScanConfigRouter();
    • CheckDetailsPage.tsx
    • CheckDetailsTable.tsx
    • ClusterDetailsTable.tsx
    • ProfileChecksTable.tsx
    • ProfileClustersTable.tsx
    const { generatePathWithScanConfig, navigateWithScanConfigQuery } = useScanConfigRouter();
    • ClusterDetailsPage.tsx
    const { navigateWithScanConfigQuery } = useScanConfigRouter();
    • CoveragesPage.tsx
    • ProfileTableToggleGroup.tsx

Solution

  1. Edit compliance.coverage.utils.tsx file

    Use template literal from convertToExactMatch function for exact match

User-facing documentation

  • CHANGELOG.md update is not needed
  • documentation PR is not needed

Testing and quality

  • the change is production ready: the change is GA
  • CI results are inspected

Automated testing

  • added unit tests
  • added e2e tests
  • added regression tests
  • added compatibility tests
  • modified existing tests

How I validated my change

  1. npm run tsc in ui/apps/platform folder.
  2. npm run lint in ui/apps/platform folder.
  3. npm run start in ui/apps/platform folder with staging demo as central.

Manual testing

  1. Visit /main/compliance/schedules

    • Click maria link and see profiles:

      ocp4-pci-dss-4-0
      ocp4-pci-dss-node-4-0

    • Clici maria2 link and see profile:

      rhcos4-moderate-rev-4

  2. Visit /main/compliance/coverage and select maria

    See ?scanSchedule=maria in page address

    Before changes

    GET v2/compliance/scan/stats/profiles?query=Compliance%20Scan%20Config%20Name%3Amaria

    NIST-800-53 tab has rhcos4-moderate-rev-4 toggle
    PCI-DSS tab has ocp4-pci-dss-4-0 and ocp4-pci-dss-node-4-0 toggles

    After changes

    GET /v2/compliance/scan/stats/profiles?query=Compliance%20Scan%20Config%20Name%3Ar%2F%5Emaria%24

    See absence of NIST-800-53 tab from maria2 scan schedule
    See presence of PCI-DSS tab from maria scan schedule

  3. Click a check link for a profile from PCI-DSS tab

    Before changes

    GET /v2/compliance/scan/stats/profiles/ocp4-pci-dss-4-0/checks/ocp4-pci-dss-4-0-accounts-restrict-service-account-tokens?query.query=Compliance%20Scan%20Config%20Name%3Amaria

    After changes

    GET /v2/compliance/scan/stats/profiles/ocp4-pci-dss-4-0/checks/ocp4-pci-dss-4-0-accounts-restrict-service-account-tokens?query.query=Compliance%20Scan%20Config%20Name%3Ar%2F%5Emaria%24

  4. Go back, click Clusters, and then click a cluster link

    Before changes

    Get /v2/compliance/scan/configurations/clusters/65673bd7-da6a-4cdc-a5fc-95765d1b9724/profiles/collection?query.query=Compliance%20Scan%20Config%20Name%3Amaria

    See presence of NIST-800-53 tab from maria2 scan schedule

    After changes

    GET v2/compliance/scan/configurations/clusters/65673bd7-da6a-4cdc-a5fc-95765d1b9724/profiles/collection?query.query=Compliance%20Scan%20Config%20Name%3Ar%2F%5E

    See absence of NIST-800-53 tab from maria2 scan schedule

Findings

Minor Escape regex metacharacters before adding the anchors.

- Line 337: Update convertSearchValueToExactMatch to escape regex metacharacters
in the input value before wrapping it with start and end anchors, so special
characters such as a period match literally. Add a regression test confirming a
name containing a period does not match a value with a different character in
that position.
Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Scan configuration filters now match the selected configuration name exactly, preventing partial matches from returning other configurations. When no configuration is selected, no name-based filter is applied. This makes compliance coverage results more precise while preserving the existing behavior for an empty selection and ensuring filters consistently reflect the selected name.

The scan configuration filter now uses a shared helper to format a selected name as an anchored search value. If no name is selected, the filter remains empty.

convertToExactMatch delegates string formatting to the new exported convertSearchValueToExactMatch. The coverage filter uses this helper for selected scan configuration names and returns an empty object when no name is selected.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 50.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 2 functions across 2 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Although bot comment https://github.com/stackrox/stackrox/pull/23849/changes#r4459864272 is valid, it is an edge case that we likely will not have to deal with, and even more likely is technically impossible due to scan config naming restrictions.

An alternative that should work identically is to wrap the search value in " double quote literals if we feel this is enough of an issue to worry about.

Yeah, although I guess query string of page address is only partially trusted.

Thank you! To reduce risk of future bug reports from agents scraping our repo, I will test as a follow up. This function is used only in Network Graph and (now) Compliance.
