Description

Counterpart of status in detail table to changes in #23829

Problem

Some compliance coverage data is stale or incomplete. Last known results remain listed to preserve visibility until the next successful scan.

Compliance analyst needs to know which checks or clusters?

Analysis

  1. Find which files render detail tables.

    • CheckDetailsTable.tsx file has ClusterCheckStatus type for row

    • ClusterDetailsTable.tsx file has ComplianceCheckResult type for row

  2. Find response types in ComplianceResultsService.ts file.

Solution

  1. Edit CheckDetailsTable.tsx and ClusterDetailsTable.tsx files

    • Add conditionally rendered Scan status column preceding Compliance status column

    • Render plain text for contrast with Label element or StatusCountIcon elements

    • Thank you David Vail for reminder to assign colSpan variable.

  2. Edit ComplianceResultsService.ts file

Frontend counterpart to backend changes in ROX-37455: add api/v2 compliance outdated-data proto types #23267

User-facing documentation

  • CHANGELOG.md update is not needed
  • documentation PR is not needed

Testing and quality

  • the change is production ready: the functionality is gated by a feature flag
  • CI results are inspected

Automated testing

  • added unit tests
  • added e2e tests
  • added regression tests
  • added compatibility tests
  • modified existing tests

How I validated my change

  1. npm run tsc in ui/apps/platform folder.
  2. npm run lint in ui/apps/platform folder.
  3. npm run start in ui/apps/platform folder with staging demo as central.

Manual testing

  1. Visit /main/compliance/coverage and then click a check link

    GET v2/compliance/scan/stats/profiles/ocp4-bsi/checks/ocp4-bsi-accounts-no-clusterrolebindings-default-service-account?query.query=

Before changes or with feature flag disabled, see absence of Scan status column
    CheckDetailsTable_absence

After changes and with feature flag enabled, see presence of Scan status column
    CheckDetailsTable_presence

  2. Go back, click Cluster, and then click a cluster link

    GET /v2/compliance/scan/results/profiles/ocp4-bsi/clusters/65673bd7-da6a-4cdc-a5fc-95765d1b9724?query.query=&query.pagination.offset=0&query.pagination.limit=10&query.pagination.sortOption.field=Compliance%20Check%20Name&query.pagination.sortOption.reversed=false

Before changes or with feature flag disabled, see absence of Scan status column
    ClusterDetailsTable_absence

After changes and with feature flag enabled, see presence of Scan status column
    ClusterDetailsTable_presence

Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Updates
    • Compliance coverage tables can now display a Scan status column based on the configured stale-data setting.
    • When the column is displayed, empty states and expanded rows adjust to keep the table layout aligned; when it is not displayed, the tables retain their existing layout.
    • Compliance check results now include data freshness information used to determine Scan status.

Compliance result types now include data freshness. When the feature flag is enabled, both coverage tables display a Scan status column and adjust their column spans.

Changes: Compliance scan status

Layer / File(s) Summary
Data freshness fields
ui/apps/platform/src/services/ComplianceResultsService.ts
ClusterCheckStatus and ComplianceCheckResult now require dataFreshness, typed as ComplianceCheckDataFreshness.
Conditional scan status tables
ui/apps/platform/src/Containers/ComplianceEnhanced/Coverage/CheckDetailsTable.tsx, ui/apps/platform/src/Containers/ComplianceEnhanced/Coverage/ClusterDetailsTable.tsx
When the feature flag is enabled, both tables display a Scan status column populated by getCheckScanStatus(dataFreshness). The tables adjust their column spans based on the flag.

The feature can misreport current or stale compliance results as Unknown, so the new scan-status information is unreliable until the backend mapping is completed.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Scan status column always renders Unknown on these paths.

clusterStatus and checkResult never set DataFreshness, so the API response keeps the zero value COMPLIANCE_CHECK_DATA_FRESHNESS_UNKNOWN. CheckDetailsTable.tsx:162 and ClusterDetailsTable.tsx:212 pass that value to getCheckScanStatus, which returns Unknown. Current and stale results therefore show Unknown in both tables.

The converters need an explicit mapping from the storage enum to the API enum. A direct field copy does not compile because the types differ. The storage value also has no non-test producer in the searched Go scope. Mapping the field in the converter alone is therefore not sufficient to show Current or Stale.

light nit: In ClusterDetailsTable.tsx:211 I see we added a modifier="fitContent", but not here. Probably not that important but, just for consistency, should we add it here too?

It looks like getCheckScanStatus renders plain text. The Compliance status column next to it shows an icon and a label. The PR description mentions that's on purpose, but we may want Stale to stand out more.
