…ead of a dict. Assuming that the initial indentation is anything reasonable, this will not increase the memory usage much, but visibly speeds up the lookups.
…has either a) a non-empty non-whitespace tail or b) a whitespace tail that we just set, i.e. it is never None nor an empty string.
