Thanks for the reminder but it's not been forgotten. I plan to get to it soon. The xz build process has changed considerably since 5.2.3 and more extensive changes are needed to build a universal version for the macOS installer. |

I'm going to close this since it sounds like @ned-deily has some changes in mind for the build system I cannot currently make since I cannot test them. |

The current version of XZ downloaded by the macOS installer, 5.2.3 is no longer supported. This updates the installer to use the latest 5.8.1, which is also the only branch receiving new releases.
Note: I do not have a machine to test this on. Do we have a macOS installer buildbot?
