Feature or enhancement

The section in the documentation has not changed since the original port, so I assume it is out dated. I'm looking into revising it, and proposing a new system for coordinated translation, likely distributed as a PyPI package.

    We've now landed some changes, but I'm leaving this open for a while since there may be a few follow-ups.
