Changing the source rectangle constraint from kStrict to kFast is a significant behavior change. While this enables mipmapping (resolving the aliasing issue), it also allows the sampler to fetch pixels from outside the source_rect boundaries. This can lead to "edge bleeding" artifacts, particularly when drawing sub-rectangles from a texture atlas or sprite sheet. Since the native Flutter engine (mobile/desktop) uses kStrict for drawImageRect, this change introduces an inconsistency across backends. If the upcoming Skia fix (mentioned in the PR description) enables mipmapping with kStrict, it would be safer to retain kStrict here to maintain consistency and avoid potential visual regressions in apps that rely on strict sampling boundaries.

Thank you for the clarification, @harryterkelsen. You are correct that kFast is the standard constraint for drawImageRect in the engine, and aligning Skwasm with that behavior is the right approach given the upstream Skia fix. I appreciate the correction.

The iterative downscaling hack was added to work around a problem where CanvasKit and Skwasm were not using mipmaps. However, a fix has been found, see: https://issues.skia.org/issues/500117356 This reverts the iterative downscaling code, updates the code in Skwasm to allow using mipmaps, and once https://skia-review.git.corp.google.com/c/skia/+/1242676 lands then the fix will automatically apply to CanvasKit as well. Fixes flutter#135655
