fix(cli): report incompatible health when --server probe exhausts on 503 - #71
Conversation
probe() hardcoded 'Could not reach server' when the 25s retry window ran out, even when every probe was answered with 503. Route the last failure through connectError instead: transport exhaustion still says 'Could not reach', while a server that kept answering 503 reports that it did not provide a compatible V2 health response. Fixes #70

The 503 test in
packages/cli/test/auth.test.tsreaches the retry deadline and checks the incompatible-health message. The transport test only retries until a server starts. Add a transport-exhaustion test that checksCould not reach server at <url>; otherwise a regression in the transport timeout mapping can pass.Suggested fix

What does this PR do?
The #34 retry loop in
ServerConnection.probehardcodedCould not reach server at <url>when the 25-second window ran out. That is the wrong headline when every probe was answered with 503: the server was reached, it just never gave a compatible V2 health response. It also broke the pre-existingauth listconnection-failure test, which has been failing onmainin CI on Linux and Windows since the retry landed (run 39146956788: expecteddid not provide a compatible V2 health response, receivedCould not reach server at ..., after the full ~26 s window).One-line fix: the exhaustion path now fails with
connectError(endpoint, cause), the same mapping the non-transient path already uses. Transport exhaustion (a port that never answers) still producesCould not reach server at <url>; 503 exhaustion produces the incompatible-health message. The comment aboveprobeis extended to state this. Nothing else changes: 503-then-healthy still resolves, 401 is still not retried. How did you verify your code works?
bun test --timeout 30000 test/auth.test.ts -t "reports list connection failures"inpackages/clifails with the exact CI message (Could not reach server at http://localhost:40243/, 28.1 s).packages/cli/test/auth.test.ts: 12/12 pass, including that test (26.3 s — it still waits out the window, now with the right message).packages/cli/test/server-connection.test.ts: 5/5 pass (503×2→healthy resolves at exactly 3 probes; refused→started resolves; 401 not retried, 1 probe).Could not reach server at <url>— the fix(cli): explicit --server connection gives up on the first refused/503 probe during a server handoff instead of retrying the same URL #34 exhaustion behaviour is unchanged.bun typecheckinpackages/cliexits 0; prettier check on the changed file is clean.
