🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick winLimit nested slot traversal.
If a
Py_slot_subslotsarray points back to itself,PySlot::iterrepeatedly pushes the same array and never returns. The stack grows until the process runs out of memory. Enforce the documented five-level nesting limit and return an error when traversal exceeds it. (github.com)🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

Honor the bases supplied by Py_tp_bases
When a direct PyType_FromSlots table contains slot 49 (Py_tp_bases), as_kind converts it to TypeSlot(TpBases, ...), but this wildcard silently consumes it. Consequently base remains None and the constructor selects object, so the call succeeds with the wrong MRO and inherited behavior instead of using the caller-supplied bases; handle TpBases explicitly rather than falling through.

Store the module name in module
When a direct PyType_FromSlots table supplies Py_tp_module, module is a PyModule, so this inserts the module object itself as __module__. PyType::__module__ returns that attribute unchanged and PyType_GetModuleName forwards it, so Python and C callers receive a module object where the module-name string is expected, breaking behaviors such as type qualification and pickling; retain the module association separately and expose its name through __module__.

Reject metaclasses whose constructor is not honored
When Py_tp_metaclass names a metaclass with custom construction behavior, this assignment is followed by a direct PyType::new_heap call, so the metaclass's custom __new__/tp_new is neither invoked nor rejected. Such a slot therefore succeeds while creating a type without the metaclass's invariants; validate and reject unsupported custom constructors (as PyType_FromMetaclass requires) or route creation through them.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
