2026 is off to a busy start at Google Play! Our goal for this year is to continue building experiences that center our users and give developers new avenues to succeed on and off the store. Our Q1 edition of The Latest highlights the progress we’ve made in just a few short months, from boosting discovery of apps and games with new search improvements to hosting exclusive meetups with Grammy nominees during our Play Points Rewards Tour. We also connected with thousands of devs at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, where we shared how we’re helping gamers discover and play paid games they love across PC and mobile. Huge thank you to our users and developer community for helping shape our roadmap for the year ahead. I can’t wait to share more of the exciting work we’re doing in the coming months!

  • Android Studio Panda 4 is now stable and ready for you to use in production! 🐼 → https://goo.gle/4cwypRi New features include: Planning Mode - this lets the agent step back, reason, and capture a plan that you can review before it writes a single line of code. Next Edit Prediction - this doesn't just suggest the next word, it anticipates the next logical edit in your workflow based on your recent code changes. Gemini API Starter Template - this template takes care of the boilerplate code and guides you through a seamless, built-in setup wizard that gets your app connected to Gemini in just a few clicks. Agent Web Search - Agent Web Search expands Gemini's reach, allowing it to query Google directly to fetch current reference material from across the web.

  • If you've been looking for ways to decouple your app’s layout logic and streamline your UI transitions, the 1.1 release of Navigation 3 introduces three new capabilities designed to help. https://goo.gle/4e9BF7z 1️⃣ Scene decorators: Adding to Navigation 3 scene APIs, scene decorators can be used to modify the scene calculated by your app's scene strategy. For example, they can be used to add common UI elements such as top app bars and navigation bars/rails that you’d like to add at the scene, rather than nav entry level. https://goo.gle/4cdRvf1 2️⃣ Shared nav entries: Does your app have nav entries that are shared across scenes? NavDisplay now includes built-in functionality that makes nav entries shared elements so they can be smoothly transitioned between scenes. https://goo.gle/4c6GYCc 3️⃣ Typesafe metadata DSL: Looking to make your metadata definition and usage more typesafe and readable? Use the new NavMetadataKey interface and metadata {} builder! https://goo.gle/4dvuUNf To demonstrate these APIs, we’ve updated all of the existing samples in the nav3-recipes GitHub repository and also added two new ones: Nav3-recipes → https://goo.gle/47Nremk Dialog scene decorator → https://goo.gle/4siPsfC Responsive navigation scene decorator → https://goo.gle/4tCDWNe
