Jose C Fernandez reacted on thisJose C Fernandez reacted on thisAfter nearly five and a half incredible years at Corporate Tools, today marks the end of an important chapter in my career. When I joined, I was looking for an opportunity to grow as a software engineer. Looking back, I couldn't have asked for a better place to learn. I'm grateful for the talented teammates, mentors, and leaders who challenged me, answered my endless questions, trusted me with meaningful projects, and helped shape me into the engineer I am today. One of the things I'll miss most isn't just the work—it's the people. I've had the privilege of collaborating with some truly exceptional individuals, and I'm thankful for the friendships and experiences we've shared along the way. As bittersweet as it is to say goodbye, I'm excited to begin a new chapter as a Software Engineer at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL). I'm looking forward to learning from another outstanding team, taking on new challenges, and continuing to grow both professionally and personally. Thank you to everyone at Corporate Tools for an unforgettable five years. I'll always be grateful for the opportunity and wish everyone continued success. Here's to the next adventure!

Jose C Fernandez liked thisJose C Fernandez liked thisEvery "productivity" app offering AI for being more productive is like a much sadder version of the "A Taste of Armageddon" (ST:TOS S1:E23) episode of Star Trek in which we're gummed to oblivion by an arms race of "intelligent" agents doing accelerating amounts of busywork because all of a sudden "just throwing money at it" is a strategy that can, at least on paper, continue on to infinity. In the episode, the "combatants" have lulled themselves into perpetual participation in a simulated "war" because, while the simulation still exacts a similar cost in terms of lives, the process is no longer "messy" and so no one makes any attempt to avoid the war in the first place. All this talk of AI representatives for your meetings, summarizing your chats, chatting for you... they all make it so cheap in terms of the one resource we don't have infinite amounts of... time. (Completely leaving the natural resource consumption out of this, but that cost is not cheap, either.) Constraints are what spark creativity. The constraints force us to prioritize and declare what's valuable and what's not. Just like in the pre-"AI" world... if everything's a priority, nothing is. It doesn't matter if you have infinite resources, you still have no priority.
