I had a brief discussion on another issue in the past about this, but now it is really frustrating me! I need to be able to sort my table by multiple columns and the only way to do this is using a View.
Views are not editable currently, so this kind of renders them useless for the purposes of editing, and it would be super useful to be able to edit cells WITH sorting!
Yes, this was mentioned before and there are ways to edit some views, you need to define pseudo primary key and a trigger for editing it. I'll redirect you to the previous issue and close this as redudant. We need to keep the issue count to a sane amount 😄 It's #1320.
Yes, they are. You can't add new records to a view, but you can edit existing records.
If you open two copies of DB4S, you can flip between them - so find the record number you want in one copy, find that record in copy #2, edit, return to copy #1, etc. A bit of mousey clickey, but works OK.
DB4S is mainly a tool for creating and editing / tweaking databases. It has poor record editing facilities (although the recent addition of filling in pre-entered data from other rows is a sexy new feature) - for full-on data manipulation, you need to create an application. Maybe one day DB4S will have a form based layout for editing records, with full relational support, etc. But that is low on the list of things to do in the development department...
If its something 'long term', then its possible something could be knocked up in Mono or something, but I don't have a Linux box to test on ... although it would be something I'd be interested in doing.
