alternative "esc" (eg jj / jk) #5

Open

Description

@oribarilan

currently to move to normal mode, one would have to hit escape.
however there are other common alternatives that vim users do, like jj / jk. explore what is common and consider adding this as a configuration (either a fixed binding with enable/disable, or a complex configuration where the user decides the binding entirely)

    As a kj enjoyer myself, I'd vouch for this as well

    @Jaxx497 go for it!
    Before you implement it though, can you suggest a plan?
    How do you imagine the configuration of this? Jk on/off, or jk/jj/off? Or something else?
    What would be the default?
    Lets discuss a bit before (or after if you prefer)

    Thanks!

    I believe someone else said they were the ones who wanted to take a stab at it, then removed their comment.

    Either way, even without the functionality I'm enjoying the plugin!

    I think setting up a binding is the most reasonable approach, opt-in is the least confusing, and doing it as a binding leaves no questions I think and the developer can select whatever sequence xe chooses:

    {
      "plugin": [["vimcode@git+https://github.com/oribarilan/vimcode.git#v0.18.1", { "updateCheck": false }]],
      "keybinds": { //How to select INSERT mode?
        "kj": "escape"
      }
    }

    I like that approach, will take a look at it after the fix I am currently working on

    Depending on how you implement, might make future keybinding requests redundant. I raised Issue 88 but would be perfectly happy adding "F": "forward-word" (or whatever the command name is).
