Brian Merrell

Applied AI engineer in Arlington, VA. I have been putting machine learning into production since 2001, and currently build retrieval and inspection systems for federal customers.

Most of what I have written in the last decade is not here. Recent work is in private repositories, and my day job has been on cleared programs, which does not produce public commits.

What is here is older, and mostly reflects a habit of showing up to projects early:

  • pyes (Jan 2011): Python client work during Elasticsearch's first year
  • gensim (2011): early involvement with the topic modeling library, which had moved to GitHub only months before
  • trio_libs (Apr 2017): things I built while learning Trio, five weeks after its first release

Acknowledged in CPython's Misc/ACKS since 2009. Co-author on the NIST TREC Legal Track 2009 evaluation: https://trec.nist.gov/pubs/trec18/papers/backstop.LEGAL.pdf
