Implement failure on configure for compilers missing capabilities #212

Closed

Description

@etr

See: #211

Describe the solution you'd like
Currently if a compiler misses some C++11 capabilities, the configuration succeeds and the build fails. This leads to confusion (one can easily miss the requirement for gcc > 5.5.0 or clang > 3.6 in the documentation)

Describe alternatives you've considered
Check on minimal version. Can lead to errors on more obscure compilers - it might still be on the plate if we allow a flag to bypass.
