-Visual C++ supports *transporting an exception* from one thread to another. Transporting exceptions enables you to catch an exception in one thread and then make the exception appear to be thrown in a different thread. For example, you can use this feature to write a multithreaded application where the primary thread handles all the exceptions thrown by its secondary threads. Transporting exceptions is useful mostly to developers who create parallel programming libraries or systems. To implement transporting exceptions, Visual C++ provides the [exception_ptr](../standard-library/exception-typedefs.md#exception_ptr) type and the [current_exception](../standard-library/exception-typedefs.md#current_exception), [rethrow_exception](../standard-library/exception-functions.md#rethrow_exception), and [make_exception_ptr](../standard-library/exception-functions.md#make_exception_ptr) functions.
