history - I've been tracking down something screwy with SimpleDateFormat.parser in the 5.0.x runtime - that was fixed in 78c7b1d (cal was never updated with the new calendar before returning), but the same code yielded yet another problem.
Hi - not really - I guess the main thing is just this is a change in behaviour from 3.3.1, where this code was behaving itself. It popped up after @koenvdheide brought in the 5.0.1 for JalviewJS + Archeopteryx.
Agreed that there is a problem with the JavaScript accessing Locale
information for dates. However your best solution is to add a specific EN
US locale to the calls rather than allow it to be Locale dependent. This
probably was a 5.0.1 upgrade that was not fully tested with non EN.us
locales.
Setting the locale will fix your problem. I can also look into enabling the
default locale business for Date.
