What does it take to become a creative heavyweight on YouTube? In the premiere episode of YouTube's new branded series "Channeling," a series that explores the lore behind YouTube's biggest creators, we step into the ring with YouTube's 23B views champion: Germán Garmendia.
The man’s got the accolades to prove it. And we’re not just talking big numbers (though he has those, too). He’s a Guinness World Record holder and was even named one of TIME's most influential people on the internet. In 2024, JuegaGerman became one of the first Hispanic channels to surpass 50 million subscribers, making it the first Spanish-language YouTube channel to receive the "Ruby Play Button. He’s also one of a small group of creators with two channels past 40 million subs, with both JuegaGerman (54M) and HolaSoyGerman (44M) having achieved the milestone. But behind the 23 billion views to date between all of his channels, is a creator focused on one thing: his community.
In this first Channeling episode, Germán walks us through his rise online—from the scripted comedy of HolaSoyGerman to the spontaneous energy of JuegaGerman—and how his fans have been his greatest coach. "My audience has taught me to grow," he explains. "It’s like a friend who from time to time checks you. Like, I love you, but maybe it’s time to talk about this."
Beyond the interview, we captured Germán in his most powerful essence behind the camera lens. Styled to lean into the aura of a champion athlete, Germán posed for a series of photos which can be found on YouTube’s Instagram that bring out his competitive instincts, his contagious sense of humor, and the real man behind the screen.
